Members have performed and recorded with many of the greats of African music, including Fela (Nigeria), I.K. Dairo (Nigeria), Kanda Bongo Man (Congo), Amayenge (Zambia), Dumi Maraire (Zimbabwe), Obo Addy (Ghana), and others.
Ensembles
Maya Soleil Traditions, an acoustic ensemble with 4-5 performers and:
vocals, costumed African dancers, balafon, mbira, ngoma, congas, djembe, talking drum, shekere, bells, and more.
Stylistic influences range from the Afro-beat of Nigeria and Highlife music of Ghana to the social dance music and Kalendula of Zambia to the Shona music of Zimbabwe.
Maya Soleil, an electric Afro-World fusion ensemble with 6-9 performers and:
vocals, costumed African dancers, saxophones, flutes, keyboards, balafon, mbira, MIDI wind controller, electric bass, ngoma, congas, djembe, talking drum, shekere, bells, world drum kit, and more
